In bright sunshine on the 4th our second Small Tortoiseshell of the season was seen at Backsand and as the thermometer reached double figures the next day 6 more were scattered around the Estate (photo by Ian Hodgson). Although it was warm again on the 6th the only butterfly to be recorded was a Peacock that fluttered across the car park and, following a couple of days of Siberian weather and with the thermometer registering less than 5 degrees in a cold NW breeze, another flew along the farm track towards the North Stream on the 13th.
