Mottled Umber trapped on 15/01/2010 (photographed by Paul Howe)

January was far from a sterile month, despite the Arctic conditions of the first two weeks. Apart from sporadic records of Winter Moth, a White-shouldered House Moth was found on the 9th and a Light Brown Apple Moth was disturbed from Waldershare Gully on the 11th. The onset of slightly milder conditions brought a Mottled Umber (a species unrecorded in 2009) on the 15th and 4 Satellites on the 17th. Two more Satellites were caught overnight of the 24th and we're still getting a sprinkling of Winter Moths.
